As today (Feb 28) is Shaban 29 in the Islamic calendar, teams of hilal (crescent moon) sighters will be deployed to see whether they could sight the crescent moon.

If the hilal sighters could spot the Hilal, then this evening would be Ramadan 1 and all Muslims in Malaysia would perform their Tarawih prayers tonight, and before dawn will have their sahur (pre-dawn eating) to begin their fast tomorrow (March 1) from dawn to dusk.

Otherwise fasting will begin on March 2.

But whatever the case, please wait for the official announcement tonight by the Penyimpan Mohor Besar Raja-Raja (the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal).
